A Special Remembrance Picnic

Community connection is something we believe is so important while walking through grief; it always helps to remember that we’re not alone! Which is why we were honoured to host our Remembrance Picnic on Sunday 17 November, so we could bring together family and whānau who had lost loved ones to suicide and create a community of those who understand the unique pain of this loss.

We enjoyed spending a lovely and relaxing afternoon with everyone who came, and it was really nice to meet everyone’s whānau. We were lucky to have beautiful weather on the day and we’re glad people enjoyed the sausage sizzle, live music and all the activities on offer. We feel privileged that we got to share such a special day with those attending as we remembered and honoured loved ones.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koe to everyone that came, and especially to those who contributed to making the event happen: our incredible volunteers – Rachael Phillips, Lloyd Shand and Myra Taikato, Gilmours for their generous donation of food, Te Puna Quarry Park for allowing us to use their beautiful space and Bethlehem Baptist Church for providing face painting. We really appreciated the support! Big thanks to Sophie Gibson and her sister for donating their time to provide beautiful music and vocals that shaped the atmosphere perfectly.

We will be planning our next annual event for late 2025.
